PotC Unused Poster Artwork

Hey everyone,

Been literally years since I've been on but anyways, was scrolling on eBay and saw this seller selling unused test artwork of PotC promotional material which got me wondering, does anyone know about these or have any others? Just curious to see because these are very different from what we ended up actually getting and I think I prefer the OST test one as opposed to the final.

Random Saturday Post - First Blog of 2024

Not exactly how I wanted my first post of 2024 to play out, but me funny bone won this round.

I can't seem to think of anything more creative and witty, because the image speaks for itself.

At any rate, other than the usual business, online and offline, some public, some yet to be shared, nothing is particularly new here as of yet. Obviously, if there is any update on the PotC universe, or any major changes on PotC Wiki (believe it or not, there is in the works), you can be sure it'll be shared. As the Wiki continues to be updated, I hope everyone—be it regular user or visitor—is having a wonderful 2024 thus far.

The Curse of the Black Pearl 20th Anniversary - Merry Christmas, Me Hearties, Yo Ho!

Yo-Ho-Ho...Hang on a minute, that's not quite right. Har har! Merry Christmas to you all, my fellow Pirates fans, and Happy Holidays for those who don't celebrate. For personal reasons, the holidays will be difficult for me, but I won't let it get me down too hard. For our celebrations this year, I am going to post some main points of what happened throughout this year in. Whether it be here on Pirates of the Caribbean Wiki or other things to catch up on news-wise, some official, some not, some old, some new, but would nevertheless still make a pirate with the blackest soul and the darkest heart sweat in his or her eyes. This is in part to save the personal hassle of making separate "Christmas" and "New Year's" blog posts, comparing one set…

Questions about Pirates 4, "On Stranger Tides"

First of all, I wanna clarify that I don't hate this movie, I find it quite cute and I like its sense of humor. It was done under happy circumstances, with a good spirit and a pleasant atmosphere, and it's very obvious.

I think it's a bit soulless, though, and it's ironic because it is about the Fountain of Youth, (the water of life, "Aqua de Vida") and the movie itself feels a bit dead. And I think one of the main problems is the music, that doesn't make any sense at all. (Not Zimmer to blame, though, that's all Marshall.)

Anyway.

I have some questions regarding the plot, and I would like to know if there are any logical explanations on certain things that are not explained in the movie, or maybe some deleted scenes that do explain them, but…

On Stranger Tides is a deeply underrated installment

I really deeply never got the hate for this film. Everything from the direction to the writing and the story are in my eyes at least the best continuation they could have done to the first three without ruining them.

Let's address the common complaints:

  1. "It didn't have Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann". Probably the biggest complaint I keep seeing is that it didn't have Will and Elizabeth. I think out of all of them, this is the stupidest one. No matter how much some people try to say otherwise, Jack is the true protagonist of this film series. Will and Elizabeth had their arc concluded in AWE. But Jack's arc spans all 5 films. Also, their arc was concluded perfectly in AWE. Featuring them would have felt forced and cheap fan service. Also ho…

Had the fantastic experience of seeing Pirates on the big screen again

I had the good fortune of making the voyage to Hollywood's El Capitan Theatre last night, dressed in my pirate-y best! Tickets were far from cheap and the journey was bedeviled by traffic--so much that I only narrowly made it into the theater just as the previews were ending--but suffice to say, the experience was well worth it all. I'm not exaggerating in the slightest when I say this movie shaped my life, and seeing it on the big screen again really was nothing short of fantastic. There was a lively audience as well (no doubt all of them were as insane about Pirates as I am), and with the amount of people losing their collective minds when the principal cast showed up onscreen, it was like I'd stepped out of a time machine to the year 200…

Something about the Wicked Wench’s nameplate.

I’ve taken into account that Jack Sparrow’s ship had a nameplate on her stern as the Wicked Wench but as the Black Pearl there's no sign that a nameplate was ever there. What's the deal with that?

PotC & Indiana Jones

Why do those a******s at Disney keep copying their own movies, over and over again?

Despite the fact that the 5th "Pirates" movie is one of the worst and most ridiculous films I've ever watched, when I saw the new clip from Indy 5, I couldn't help but notice a similar scene.

The main character of the franchise, has sort of lost his former abilities in doing whatever he's supposed to do, he's accompanied by a black-haired younger woman, who is also the daughter of an old friend of the main character, (in Pirates' case, Jack and Barbossa are more like frenemies, but it still counts), and the new female lead is taking over everything, because the main character is a loser. Great.

And on top of that, they even add the same set pieces, like this o…

Dead Men Tell No Tales/Salazar's Revenge - Six Years Later

Ahoy, me maties! Remember what happened on this day, six years ago? The fifth film in the Pirates of the Caribbean series, titled Dead Men Tell No Tales, (Salazar's Revenge in some countries), was released in Australia, one day before its US release.

You know that feeling, like a hunter at the end of the hunt? You're very, very happy because you finally got your hands on your prey, but you're also kinda sad because the hunt is over. To quote Captain Jack, "It's not the destination so much as the journey." That's how I felt when I left the theatre after I watched On Stranger Tides. But after Dead Men Tell No Tales, I didn't feel so satisfied as before. There was no excitement left in me anymore. The film wasn't great. It was just... okay.

It wasn'…

"Scoundrels of the Seas" pop-up extras

Transcribed from the Blu-ray disc release of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, I present here the pop-up text extras from the "Scoundrels of the Seas" bonus feature. While I have no idea what bearing much of this information may have on canon (it's largely real-world pirate facts), it's still potentially a useful resource to have around here.

  • The rhythm of a sea chanty usually coincided with a "heave" or "pull".
  • Clothing styles were the same for children as they were for adults.
  • Sailors were allotted two ounces of rum a day.
  • Even though coats had many buttons, they were not designed to close.
  • Bartholomew Roberts, dubbed "Black Bart" for his evil ways, once burned a captured ship and its cargo of slaves.
  • This was because the …

Pirates of the Caribbean 6

I think Pirates 6 should dial back from 1700s to 1400s and see Jack Sparrow Discover America!

The Spanish colonization of the Americas began in 1493 on the Caribbean island of Hispaniola after the initial 1492 voyage of Genoese mariner Christopher Columbus under license from the Queen Isabella I of Castile. These overseas territories of the Spanish Empire were under the jurisdiction of Crown of Castile until the last territory was lost in 1898. Spaniards saw the dense populations of indigenous peoples as an important economic resource and the territory claimed as potentially producing great wealth for individual Spaniards and the crown. Religion played an important role in the Spanish conquest and incorporation of indigenous peoples, bringing…

Bought myself something to celebrate the upcoming 20th anniversary...

My "Daring Determination" statue finally arrived, and (after a bit of gluing that was needed thanks to the seller’s inadequate packaging) I’m so happy with her! She was originally released for the 5th anniversary of “The Curse of the Black Pearl”, and it only feels fitting that I should get my hands on one in the months leading up to its 20th (God, I can't believe it's been that long).

DisneyPirates.com lore, part 2

As mentioned in another comment, there was also a timeline/list of events on the '09-10 version of the Disney Pirates site. There isn't a whole lot of information here that isn't already seen in the films themselves, but we do get more details on how Jack got himself into the Turkish Prison + a statement that "about two months" passed between P2 and P3.

  • 1 Timeline
    • 1.1 The Curse of the Black Pearl
    • 1.2 After The Curse
    • 1.3 Dead Man's Chest
    • 1.4 At World's End

Sparrow arrives in Port Royal, sinking the Jolly Mon in the process. Norrington is promoted from captain to commodore and intends to propose to Elizabeth Swann. As Sparrow plans to steal a British ship, he rescues Swann, who fell into the ocean. The pirate medallion, awakened by contact with the sea…

DisneyPirates.com lore unearthed!

Hey, so last night I just happened to come across a treasure trove of previously-lost lore from an older version of the official DisneyPirates.com site! Much of the it was tangled in source code and it took me some time to dig it up - so to speak - but here it is:

Major plot hole of At Worlds End

Will Turner becomes the captain of the Flying Dutchman in the end. The Captain is able to save people by offering them years of service on the Flying Dutchman and letting them join the crew. If the movie was written better, Elisabeth would have volunteered to join the crew of the dutchman and live forever with Will ferrying souls of the departed. Why didn't Elisabeth put herself in danger at sea so Will would save her and take her into the crew to become one of the Immortal members of the crew. This would have been much better writing and a much better send-off for the two characters.

Interesting ship cameo in On Stranger Tides

Ahoy, me maties! Remember Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides? Yep, the second Pirates movie to make over a billion dollars at the box office. Well, after rewatching it for who knows which time, I started paying more attention to one particular scene. The moment when Jack Sparrow... my apologies, Captain Jack Sparrow, jumps from the Captain's Daughter pub sign into the street bellow. Right in front of him, the street on the right leads into the harbor, where we see a large, three-masted ship docked.

Now, let's focus on the ship. Once I magnified the ship, I noticed one very interesting detail. Between the mizzenmast and the foremast the ship's rail goes down step by step no less than FIVE times! You can see a slightly sharper image he…

I just watched the movies

Hi! I just watched the first four movies for the first time! I saw the 5th movie in the theaters but I don't really remember it so I am going to watch that one next!

Pirates of the Caribbean has always been one of my favorite attractions at Disneyland! SOMETIMES, I would even call it my number one favorite. I remember when I first went on that ride, I went on it like 4 times in row. I finally decided to watch the movies and they were pretty good!

My favorite: I can not decide between the 1st, 2nd and 4th (basically all of them except for the 3rd).

Least favorite: The third movie (At World's End) was definitely my least favorite because I had no Idea what was going on. After staring at the screen for 2 hours and 49 minutes without knowing what…
