Adventureland is one of the themed lands at the many Disney theme parks run by the Walt Disney Company around the world. As one of the original lands of Disneyland opened in 1955, it is themed to resemble the remote jungles in Africa, Asia, South America, Oceania and the Caribbean. Adventureland is also in Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World, at Tokyo Disneyland, at Disneyland Paris, and at Hong Kong Disneyland.

"To create a land that would make this dream reality", said Walt Disney, "we pictured ourselves far from civilization, in the remote jungles of Asia and Africa." Adventureland provides a 1950s view of exotic adventure, capitalizing on the post-war Tiki craze. Lush vegetation resembles jungles while elements of the "other" surround the visitor. Tribal performance masks, conga drums, non-American totem poles, exotic animal statues, and architecture of Pacific influence make for a confined area wherein industry and technology take a back seat to uncharted nature. Although most noted for the Jungle Cruise, which takes up most of its space at Disneyland, the Magic Kingdom's Adventureland is divided into two main-sub areas, one being the Arabian Village and the other being the Caribbean Plaza, which is home to Pirates of the Caribbean.

Park History

Walt Disney said, "To create a land that would make this dream reality, we pictured ourselves far from civilization, in the remote jungles of Asia and Africa." Adventureland is one of the original lands of Disneyland, most noted for the Jungle Cruise, which takes up most of its space. The land was suggested by Walt's True-Life Adventure series. Also in Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World, at Tokyo Disneyland, at Disneyland Paris, and at Hong Kong Disneyland. Adventureland originally opened at Disneyland on July 17, 1955, and later opened at the Magic Kingdom October 1, 1971.

Adventureland provides a 1950s view of exotic adventure, capitalizing on the post-war Tiki craze. Lush vegetation resembles jungles while elements of the "other" surround the visitor. Tribal performance masks, conga drums, non-American totem poles, exotic animal statues, and architecture of Pacific influence make for a confined area wherein industry and technology take a back seat to uncharted nature. Noted art historian David T. Doris explains Adventureland as, "a pastiche of imaginary colonial spaces, conflated within the green and foliate milieu of 'the Jungle.'"

Pirates of the Caribbean and Related Attractions

Pirates of the Caribbean is located in Adventureland in the Magic Kingdom, though is slightly different from the original from Disneyland. After the ride, Tortuga Tavern is the place to eat. Besides actual attractions, there are related activities for the children to take part in. Kids can learn to be a pirate at Captain Jack Sparrow's Pirate Tutorial. Also, the park periodically hosts Disney's Pirate and Princess Party.
