Amiel Berangere was a French captain who was tasked to escort the ammunitions barque Oiseau to the French-occupied colony of Oxbay in the South Caribbean archipelago in 1630.
Dissatisfied with the payment promised to him, he was offered 3000 gold by the English captain and agent Nathaniel Hawk to pass on the mission to him. Amiel was more than happy with the bribe, and Nathaniel pretended to escort the barque before boarding or sinking her at sea under Governor Robert Silehard's orders.

- In the game, if the player is unable to pay the 3000 gold to Amiel, he is forced to kill him for the job. However, if the player has a high reputation, Amiel can be convinced to pass on the job without payment.
