- "Silehard is one step ahead of me. The idol is on a ship, and the guard captain has an order to arrest everyone interested in the idol. I need to hurry to the port and try to catch the English ship with the idol on board."
- ―Nathaniel Hawk's journal
The Arabella was an English frigate in the South Caribbean Archipelago in the 1630s.
History[]
It is unknown when and where the Arabella was built, but by the early 1630 she was stationed in the South Caribbean Archipelago. She was tasked to transport the Incan Khirucatceliti idol to Redmond under Governor Robert Silehard's orders. The rogue captain Nathaniel Hawk, however, ambushed and captured her, taking the idol for himself.
She may have been named after Governor Silehard's daughter, Arabella Silehard.
Design and appearance[]
The Arabella was a frigate of standard design, armed with 44 heavy 24-pounder cannons. She had decent speed and maneuverability and potent firepower. She resembles a 5th rate ship of the line under the Royal Navy system.
Behind the scenes[]
- This ship's model seems to have been inspired by the historic 32-gun Kreyser-class frigate built in 1729.
- The ship being named the Arabella after the daughter of an English colonial official is a possible reference to the pirate frigate Arabella from Rafael Sabatini's 1922 adventure novel Captain Blood, which was also named after the daughter of an English colonial official.
