"We are an unimaginative lot when it comes to naming things." The title of this article is conjectural. |
- "A galleon. On its way from the Spanish Main. They're approaching with oars."
"Are we at war with the Spanish?"
[A cannonball flies by]
"...Evidently." - ―Jack Sparrow and Will Turner
The Attack on the Interceptor was a legendary[2] skirmish between Captain Jack Sparrow and Will Turner against Don Carrera de la Vega. The pirates were briefly captured, but broke free and set fire to all the masts. But Sparrow left Turner to be captured as he scurried onto the Interceptor.
Battle[]
- "This is even better than taking a British ship. We've captured pirates."
- ―Carrera de la Vega to his crew
According to Jack Sparrow, after him and Will Turner departed from Port Royal to recruit a crew in Tortuga, a Spanish galleon approached them, seeing that they flew British colors. Since Spain and Britain were in hostilities, the galleon's captain Carrera de la Vega expected to attack it and claim it as a conquest of the British Royal Navy. He sent two rowboats to approach and board the ship, also firing a cannon ball that nearly missed the two pirates. The boarding party brought the two men onto the galleon, where their appearance surprised the Don. He was overcome with a greater joy, that he had captured pirates. But he had to use the privy, so in the meantime, the two pirates managed to break free from their shackles and fought off the crew. They killed the conquistadores guarding the steps to the bowsprit and the head of the ship, and set fire to the wooden masts, in addition to lowering the rowboats and thus denying the Spanish their needs in order to pursue the pirates in case they escaped back to the Interceptor. But then, a crippled de la Vega came out of his flaming cabin and prepared to attack the pirates with the Thousand Strike Spin move. Since the main mast was armored, the pirates used his attacks to break open the plates of armor and had him knocked unconscious. Then, they burnt the main mast and prepared to escape. But Jack fled across the mainmast, which collapsed and formed a crude bridge back onto the Interceptor, as Will fought a recovered Carrera de la Vega and his crew. He just noticed that Jack had escaped when he was knocked out and sent to the gold mines for the rest of his life (With Jack freeing him later).
Behind the scenes[]
The move Carrera de la Vega does, the Thousand Strike Spin, is later used by Alberto Chaves in the final level.

Notes and references[]
- ↑ The timeline established in On Stranger Tides (which takes place in 1750) and Dead Men Tell No Tales (which takes place in 1751) sets the events of The Legend of Jack Sparrow around 1728. However, the exact placement still has to be officially confirmed by The Walt Disney Company.
- ↑ It is uncertain whether this event was just a story told to citizens of Fort Alvo Grande and Alberto Chaves by Jack Sparrow to keep the hangman from executing him and Will and buy time in order to allow Elizabeth Swann to come along and cut loose their ropes, or a real battle. In Pirates of the Caribbean: The Legend of Jack Sparrow, when Jack tells this story and the one following, Will shows no objection like he usually does in Jack's other tales, and it may not contradict the events seen in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. However, there's no confirmation that it actually happened either and no time frame for when it could have taken place. Therefore, it is not currently determinable whether this battle actually took place, or if it's a made up event.
