A brig was a prison aboard any sailing vessel.

Vessels such as the Black Pearl[1][2] and the Flying Dutchman[3][4] contained brigs. The British Royal Navy warships like the HMS Monarch and the Essex also contained brigs.[5] Supernatural beings, such as the cursed Davy Jones,[4] or Armando Salazar's cursed ghostly crew of the Silent Mary in the brig of the HMS Monarch.[5]
Behind the scenes[]
Brigs first appeared in media relating to the 2003 film Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl,[2] notably Irene Trimble's junior novelization.[1]
In the 2017 film Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, when Hector Barbossa released the Black Pearl from the bottle and restored the ship to its true size, he had Jack Sparrow tied to the foremast of the Pearl.[5] In Jeff Nathanson's early 2013 screenplay draft, Jack was imprisoned in the brig board the Queen Anne's Revenge.[6]
