Dominica was an island in the Caribbean. It was part of the Lesser Antilles archipelago in the Caribbean Sea. Dominica's closest neighbours were Guadeloupe to the northwest and Martinique to the south-southeast. Dominica was known for its natural environment, with the island having lush mountainous rainforests and was the home of many plants, animals, and bird species. The island was settled by the indigenous peoples and was colonised by Europeans, predominantly by the French from the 1600s to the 1700s.
History[]
In the early 1710s, when the East India Trading Company merchant ship Wicked Wench, approached the Caribbean on her maiden voyage under the EITC ship's commanding officer, Captain Jack Sparrow, Sparrow saw Dominica in the distance through his spyglass.[1]
Prior to the search for the Trident of Poseidon, Henry Turner spent his life studying the myths of the sea, having drawn several recorded encounters with the sea snakes, at least one depicting a man named Sam Brown having his leg bit off by a "Devilish Sea Seppent" that was sighted off the coast of Dominica.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
Dominica first appeared in the 2011 The Price of Freedom by A. C. Crispin.[1] Prior to this, the fact that scenes from the 2006-2007 films Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and At World's End were filmed in Dominica was noted, among other sources, in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Complete Visual Guide[3] and Bring Me That Horizon: The Making of Pirates of the Caribbean.[4]
