- "But Apedemak was worshipped in Egypt, too, in the ancient times... In Egypt he was worshipped under the name ‘Maahes.’"
"That’s worth a try."
"And Maahes did have a mother. In northern Egypt, he was the son of the cat goddess, Bast. And in southern Egypt, closer to Kush, the cat goddess who bore him was known as Sekhmet." - ―Amenirdis and Jack Sparrow
Egypt was an ancient country in northeastern Africa, concentrated along the lower reaches of the Nile river.
History[]
Egypt was a rich and powerful kingdom that lasted for thousands of years. It was a polytheistic society ruled by a monarch called the pharaoh. At some point, Egypt absorbed its neigbouring kingdom, Kush.
Hundreds of years after the fall of the Egyptian empire, the EITC Director for West Africa, Cutler Beckett, had a few Egyptian pieces in his collection of ancient jewelry and weapons. The young pirate Jack Sparrow considered searching for the treasure of the Egyptian pharaohs, but gave up when his friend Christophe-Julien de Rapièr informed him that the royal tombs were usually cursed by the priests.[1]
