"It be time to put our differences aside. The First Brethren Court gave us rule of the seas, now that rule is being challenged by Lord Cutler Beckett."
Hector Barbossa to Sao Feng[src]

The War Against Piracy was an act attempted and carried out by Lord Cutler Beckett and the East India Trading Company, aided by the British Royal Navy, to wipe out piracy from the world. The Company's purpose for the war was to expand their business into the Caribbean as well as exterminating pirates. Beckett was able to achieve this plan by finding the fabled Dead Man's Chest, in which lied the heart of Davy Jones, to control the seas.

The war led to a near complete wipe-out of all pirates in the world, which led the Brethren Court to convene, in which Elizabeth Swann was voted as the new Pirate King. The final battle raged outside of Shipwreck Island, between the Brethren's fleet, led by the Black Pearl; and Beckett's armada, led by the Flying Dutchman and the HMS Endeavour. The battle resulted in the deaths of Ian Mercer, Davy Jones, and Cutler Beckett himself. Will Turner was killed in the battle by Davy Jones, but was ultimately resurrected when Jack Sparrow aided Turner in stabbing Jones' heart, prompting Turner to be the new captain of the Flying Dutchman.

Sea battle 2

Battle between the EITC ship and a pirate ship

After the Battle of the Isla de Muerta and Jack Sparrow's second escape from Port Royal, the East India Trading Company began to expand in the Caribbean. Port Royal was 'accidently' destroyed as a result of a flawed plan of storing gunpowder for attacking pirates. Within a day, what was destroyed was reconstructed (Governor's Mansion, Fort Charles and the Company's dock were saved). While many citizenfolk and pirates lost their lives in the blast, the others had all gone on a stowaway for a marriage of all things! Tortuga was attacked by the Company in the same manner, but fearing too much resentment it seemed that Beckett has brought it back as well. Padres del Fuego had the same fate as Port Royal; it was 'accidently destroyed'. However, many pirates fearing the event would happen, began to attack the Company's ships even before the destruction.

In retaliation, the East India Company beefed up its warships and a huge fleet battle off Padres' coast occurred. The EITC suffered many losses, and began taxing citizens heavily for compensation of its ships. The explosions that ripped across Los Padres was apparently due to the lava lighting hidden gunpowder caches. The Company's Black Guard began to hunt for the ring leaders of the crimes against them. With many unsuccessful attempts, they decided to deal with Jolly Roger, an undead pirate captain, and his black magic was put on them. The Company thus raided many pirate feasts and celebrations. They also sent many pirates as spies for the Company. After some time, the EITC helped Jolly Roger with his Invasion of Port Royal and Tortuga by allowing him access to land. Padres del Fuego was the next target of Jolly Roger, and its invasion commenced.

The EITC didn't realize Jolly's reason to invade Padres. It seemed that long ago, the Spanish Conquistadores left many weapons on Padres. These weapons were lost and called El Patron's Lost Weapons. Jolly Roger ordered his most trusted men to retrieve the weapons, and even to pay in gold for any help. Many pirates once again fell for their great offers of gold, which Roger's men gladly paid. The EITC captain appeared with them to show their alliance. Jolly Roger however, wanted to break the alliance with the Company. Roger's men were able to find out that the weapons were apparently hidden on an unknown island known as Raven's Cove. Some time later, the East India Trading Company has realized Jolly Roger's double crossing methods, and it sent a massive fleet of ships of the line in the Caribbean waters. During the huge battle of Raven Cove, both sides retrieved some of the weapons.

A Marriage Interrupted[]

"A marriage interrupted...or fate intervenes?"
Cutler Beckett to Elizabeth Swann[src]
WedcrashDMC

Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann being arrested by Lord Cutler Beckett.

On the day of Elizabeth Swann and Will Turner's wedding, the East India Trading Company arrived and took control of Port Royal. They arrested William Turner from his blacksmiths' shop, and took him for further questioning. He was brought in front of Elizabeth, who was furious at this act. Governor Weatherby Swann rushed in, and the Royal Marine guarding Turner halted the Governor. The Royal Marines only answered to Lord Cutler Beckett, who had taken control of the Royal Marines.

Elizabeth was also arrested when searching for Turner's warrant, when they happen to come across one for Elizabeth. Beckett's assistant Ian Mercer also found a warrant for James Norrington, former Commodore who based his operations in Port Royal. Weatherby Swann revealed to Beckett that Norrington had resigned his commission months ago. Elizabeth and Will were charged for helping to free a pirate from his death. Beckett then asked Will and Elizabeth if they remember their friend Jack Sparrow, to which Elizabeth and Will responded "Captain. Captain Jack Sparrow".

A Deal[]

"By your efforts, Jack Sparrow was set free. I would like you to go to him and recover a certain property in his possession."
"Recover. At the point of a sword?"
"Bargain.
"
Cutler Beckett and Will Turner before they made a deal.[src]

Turner was brought before Beckett in his office at the beach of Port Royal. Beckett had Will's shackles removed, and offered Will a drink. Beckett held Letters of Marque, which would free one person of all crimes. But to get this, Will had to find Jack Sparrow and bring Beckett back Sparrow's compass, and Will and Elizabeth would be pardoned, and Jack would be an employee under the EITC.

Jack Sparrow[]

"Tortuga. I'll start searching there and I won't stop searching until I find him."
Will Turner about finding Jack Sparrow.[src]
Jack escaping Pall

Turner spoke with Elizabeth and her father before setting off to Tortuga to begin his search for Jack. Little did Will know, Jack owed a debt to Davy Jones, whom had sent the Kraken after, and Jack was willing to do anything to keep his freedom.

Will arrived in Tortuga, and after days of searching, Will was finally told that the Black Pearl, Sparrow's ship, was spotted on a beach at Pelegosto Island. Will sailed with a Jamaican fisher man to the island, and was dropped off there. Will arrived to see the Black Pearl abandoned, and its crew nowhere to be found. After Sparrow, Turner, the surviving crew of the Black Pearl, joined by Pintel and Ragetti (who tried to steal the Black Pearl) set off from Pelegosto, Sparrow promised Will that he would give him his compass if Will was to find the key on a piece of cloth Jack possessed.

Davy Jones[]

"What exactly did he put into the chest?"
"Him heart."
"Literally or figuratively?"
"He couldn't literally put his heart in a chest...could he?
"
Will Turner, Tia Dalma, Ragetti and Pintel about the Dead Man's Chest.[src]

The Black Pearl sailed to Tia Dalma's shack where they got information that the key belonged to Davy Jones and the key would unlock the Dead Man's Chest. Inside the chest was Davy Jones' own heart, still living.

Jack sailed the Black Pearl to a ship recently attacked by the Kraken, and Will went aboard. Jack tricked Will onto the ship, making Will believe it was the Flying Dutchman. Will went aboard and found the surviving crew, who had gone insane. After Will found a body with its face sucked off by the Kraken, the real Flying Dutchman rose from the sea, and some of its crew boarded the ship, and took the survivors hostage. Will then dueled the cursed crew, but was quickly defeated.

Davy Jones himself arrived on the ship, and began to recruit survivors onto his crew. Jones realized that Turner was neither dead nor dying, and asked him of his purpose. Will told Jones that Jack Sparrow send him.

Aboard the Black Pearl, Jack Sparrow watched this meeting. The last thing he saw was Jones looking towards Sparrow's direction, then Jack placed his telescope down, and saw Davy Jones right in front of him. Jones' crew soon came and held Sparrow's crew hostage. Jack struck a deal with Jones, Sparrow had to collect one hundred souls in three days, though he kept Will as a "faith payment" giving Jack 99 more to go. With the need of the remaining 99 souls, Sparrow had the Black Pearl set sail to Tortuga.

A Former Commodore[]

"You look bloody awful, what are you doing here?"
"You hired me. I can't help it if your standards are lax.
"
Jack Sparrow and the former commodore James Norrington.[src]

Elizabeth Swann arrived in Tortuga in search of Jack Sparrow and Will. Her father had been arrested by the EITC for trying to help Elizabeth escape, which she did. Elizabeth also managed to steal the Letters of Marque from Beckett at gunpoint.

Jack and Joshamee Gibbs were recruiting for the crew in the Faithful Bride. While recruiting, Gibbs was confronted by former commodore James Norrington whom Jack personally hired by Norrington's gunpoint. After Norrington accidentally fired his pistol, a brawl began in the bar. Elizabeth arrived in the bar to fight off Norrington's attackers. Norrington was then knocked out by Elizabeth herself. She and Norrington later headed off to find the Black Pearl.

At the docks, Elizabeth and Norrington ran into Jack, who was surprised to see Elizabeth, but not Norrington. Jack then tricked Elizabeth into believing that if she found the Dead Man's Chest using Sparrow's compass to lead them, she would be able to free Will from Davy Jones. For Sparrow, his compass would not work for him, because his mind was in a state of fear, due to the Kraken hunting him. Since Jones removed his Black Spot, the Kraken wouldn't hunt them any more. The Black Pearl set sail to see where their path would take them.

Theft of the Key[]

While on board the Flying Dutchman, Will ran into his father, Bootstrap Bill Turner, who had a debt to pay Jones. Bootstrap saved his son from being whipped severely, but to do that, Bootstrap had to whip Will himself. The two Turners' spoke with Wyvern, who informed them more of the key and the chest. He also spoke that if someone stabbed the heart inside the chest, there would be no Captain for the Flying Dutchman.

Will challenged Davy Jones to a game of Liar's Dice, which Bootstrap joined in on. Will bet his soul if he lost to Jones, if Jones lost to Will, he would have to tell him of the key. Bootstrap realized his son was going to lose, so Bootstrap took the fall, and was to serve an eternity on the Dutchman. Will told his father that it wasn't needed, since Will wasn't going to stick around.

Will, with Bootstrap's help, managed to steal the key from Jones while he was sleeping. Will set off on a longboat after his father gave him his knife, and Will swore he would stab Jones' heart to free Bootstrap.

What You Want Most[]

"Beckett wants the compass. Only one reason for that."
"Of course...He wants the chest.
"
Joshamee Gibbs and Jack Sparrow.[src]

On the Black Pearl, Elizabeth showed Jack and Gibbs the letters of marque, and explained to them what Beckett wanted with Sparrow. Will worked for Beckett the whole time he was with Jack and never mentioned Beckett at all, only that Elizabeth's life was in danger. Jack kept the letters on his person, and wouldn't give them back to Elizabeth. This caused a little flirtation between Jack and Elizabeth, before she walked away. Norrington then approached Elizabeth, and spoke of what Elizabeth's possible emotions for Sparrow were. Elizabeth then used the compass, and found that the compass was pointing at Jack, not the direction the Black Pearl was sailing towards.

The Kraken Attacks[]

"Let no joyful voice be heard! Let no man look up at the sky with hope! And let this day be cursed by we who ready to wake...the Kraken!"
Davy Jones[src]
2kraken

The Kraken breaking the Edinburgh Trader in half.

Will managed to receive shelter on the Edinburgh Trader from Jones, but not before long, the Flying Dutchman is spotted in the horizon. The entire crew goes to check it out. The Kraken attaches itself to the bottom of the ship, causing the crew to think they hit a reef. But before any action was taken, the Kraken attacked, and destroyed the ship. Will managed to evade death from the Kraken, and fled. He sneaked back aboard the Flying Dutchman, but stayed unnoticed by the crew. Turner witnessed the execution of the survivors of the Kraken's attack. Jones knew Jack Sparrow was behind all of this, and set course for the Isla Cruces, to where the Dead Man's Chest was hidden.

Battle at Isla Cruces[]

"This is barbaric! This is no way for grown men to settle—oh, fine! Let's just pull out our swords and start banging away at each other, that will solve everything! I've had it! I've had it with wobbly-legged, rum-soaked…pirates!"
Elizabeth Swann to Will Turner, Jack Sparrow and James Norrington.[src]
Isla Cruces duel 1

Meanwhile, aboard the Black Pearl, Jack spoke to Elizabeth, who was disappointed that she wasn't married yet. Sparrow proposed a marriage on the Black Pearl at that moment, since he was Captain of the ship. Elizabeth declined, but not before long, Sparrow and Elizabeth were about to share a kiss after talking about Jack's bravery, to when Sparrow noticed his Black Spot had returned to his hand. He broke off the kiss, and Elizabeth was proud of him for not falling into her trap. Gibbs then announced the Black Pearl had arrived at the Isla Cruces.

On the beach, Sparrow, Elizabeth, and Norrington found the chest, and met up with Will Turner. After revealing that they each want the heart, Sparrow, Turner, and Norrington all end up duelling over who got to do what with the heart, and Pintel and Ragetti stole the chest. The Flying Dutchman's crew, not including Jones and several other members, arrived and searched for the chest. Sparrow ultimately got the key to the chest, and stole the heart while Elizabeth, Pintel, and Ragetti were distracted.

At the beach, Sparrow's group fought for their lives, but it was not enough. Norrington then ran off with the chest to draw the cursed crew away to give the others a chance.

Confrontations[]

"It's after you, not the ship…It's not us. This is the only way, don't you see? I'm not sorry."
"Pirate.
"
Elizabeth Swann and Jack Sparrow.[src]

The group arrived on the Black Pearl, to which was ready to confront Jones. Before acting, the Flying Dutchman, with its crew recovered, emerged from the ocean, and attacked the Black Pearl. The Pearl managed to outrun the Dutchman, but Jones summoned the Kraken to do his dirty work for him.

Jack Sparrow -3

After two attacks, and Jack Sparrow's own bravery tested, most of the crew was dead, with the exception of Jack, Will, Elizabeth, Gibbs, Pintel, Ragetti, Cotton, Marty, and Cotton's Parrot. Sparrow ordered to abandon ship, he knew the Pearl was less important than living. Elizabeth then "thanked" him for his bravery by kissing him, but while she did that, she chained him to the Pearl's mast, and left him on the ship. The others with Elizabeth then set off on the last longboat, while Jack was on the Pearl.

Jack managed to escape, but he wasn't quick enough. The Kraken had come up level with the main deck of the Black Pearl. Sparrow regained his hat from the Kraken's foul, strong, breath. He then made his last attempt, and lashed out at the Kraken with his sword, but Jack was swallowed whole by the Kraken. The Kraken then pulled the Black Pearl with its captain to Davy Jones' Locker.

A World Without Jack Sparrow[]

A Deal With Beckett[]

Back at Port Royal, Beckett was waiting for news of the chest. James Norrington was brought before Beckett, after being adrift at sea and picked up by an EITC ship. During the meeting, Norrington offered him the Letters of Marque he had stolen from Jack. Seeing that he wanted something to trade, Beckett asked if Norrington had Jack's compass. Norrington claimed that he had something better. He then placed a bag, which contained the heart of Davy Jones, on Beckett's desk.

Beckett had obtained Jones' heart, and Norrington regained his life, in service to the East India Trading Company.

A New Captain[]

"But if you go and brave the weird and haunted shores at World's End, then you will need a captain who knows those waters."
"...So tell me, what's become of my ship?

Tia Dalma and Hector Barbossa to the Pearl's crew[src]
Barbossa introduced

Captain Barbossa in Tia Dalma's shack.

The surviving crew of the Black Pearl arrived at Tia Dalma's shack, seeking refuge. Will then tried to comfort Elizabeth, by mentioning that if they could save Jack, when Tia Dalma interrupted, asking them what the crew would do to save Jack. She said if they wanted to bring Jack, and the Black Pearl back to the world of the living, they would have to travel to World's End. But she also said that they would need a Captain who was familiar with those waters. Captain Hector Barbossa then descended from the second story of Tia Dalma's shack, and asked what had happened to his ship.

The crew, now with Tia Dalma and Captain Barbossa, reformed and allied with the crew, which would go to save Jack from his grim fate in Davy Jones' locker.

War[]

Under control[]

"This is no longer your world, Jones. The immaterial has become...immaterial."
Cutler Beckett concerning Davy Jones' freedom.[src]

With Beckett in possession of Davy Jones' heart, he managed to track down Davy Jones, and make a deal with him. Jones, his crew, and his ship would be fine as long as Jones followed Beckett's orders. Beckett then ordered Jones to kill the Kraken, as it would pose too much of a threat to the EITC. Jones obeyed this order.

The Flying Dutchman then began attacks on pirates across the world in order to bring an end to piracy. Beckett also managed to harness a fleet of war ships, assisted by the Royal Navy, to bring an end to piracy.

Call of the Brethren[]

"Lord Beckett! They’ve started to sing, sir."
"...Finally.
"
Theodore Groves and Cutler Beckett[src]

In order to fight the EITC and Davy Jones, Barbossa called the Brethren Court for a fourth meeting in the history of piracy. In order to do this, all nine Pirate Lords must be called. Barbossa himself was a Pirate Lord, and so was Jack Sparrow. Since Jack has been taken to Davy Jones' Locker , they would need to get him back, since he carried one of the nine Pieces of eight that was needed for entrance into the Brethren Court. The Brethren Court was a group of pirates who claimed dominance in their area of operations. Each Pirate Lord carried a piece of eight.

Barbossa began to alert the Brethren, he didn't speak to every Pirate Lord in person, but the message got around.

The Company Controls the Seas[]

Hung By The Neck Until Dead[]

"By decree, according to martial law, the following statutes are temporarily amended: Right to assembly, suspended. Right to habeas corpus, suspended. Right to legal counsel, suspended. Right to verdict by a jury of peers, suspended. By decree, all persons found guilty of piracy, or aiding a person convicted of piracy, or associating with a person convicted of piracy...shall be sentenced to hang by the neck until dead."

In order to end piracy, King George II of England declared martial law in the Caribbean. Beckett, in obedience of the King, ordered that all men, women, or children, convicted of piracy, or associating with a person convicted of piracy, shall hang by the neck until dead.

During a mass hanging, with bodies piling up, one little boy, who was charged with piracy, was about the be hung. Even he was in shackles. As he was about to be hung, he began to sing, he knew he wasn't afraid of death, and was ready for what was to come. Soon, more and more people began to sing, the song Hoist the Colors rang through Fort Charles, creating fear in the Royal Marines, and fear in those about to be hung vanished. Beckett knew what the song meant, and took action.

The motley crew arrived in Singapore, and had a specific goal in the city. Captain Barbossa claimed that Captain Sao Feng, the Pirate Lord of the South China Sea, possessed a map that could lead him to World's End to save Jack. To do this, Barbossa sent Will Turner in to one of Sao Feng's hideouts, and tried to steal it. Meanwhile, Barbossa and Elizabeth would go and meet with Sao Feng himself, and the rest of the crew would infiltrate Sao Feng's bathhouse, and act as backup in case anything went wrong.

"But the time before that, it produced the Code, which has served us well...and it was the very first meeting that gave us no less than rule of the sea herself, didn't it? And now that rule is being challenged."
"The East India Trading Company."
"Lord Cutler Beckett is a pox on us all.
"
Hector Barbossa and Sao Feng[src]

They set their plan into action, Will left and tried to steal the charts. Elizabeth sailed on a longboat through Singapore to observe the town. She discovered the EITC and the Royal Navy was already in Singapore, trying to hunt down pirates. Elizabeth docked, where she met Tai Huang, one of Sao Feng's right hand mans. Barbossa then arrived, and the group went to Sao Feng's bathhouse, barely avoiding detection by the Royal Marines.

Barbossa and Elizabeth were disarmed of all weapons, while Gibbs and the rest of the crew broke in and overpowered workers under the bathhouse. Barbossa and Elizabeth met Sao Feng, whom was glad to see them at first. But then after Barbossa stated that he needed a ship and a crew, Sao Feng realized Barbossa may be betraying him. He then showed Will Turner to them, who was being held captive. Elizabeth shrieks when Sao Feng is about to kill Will, and Sao Feng realizes he has been betrayed. He knew they were after his charts, and knew they wanted to go to Davy Jones' Locker, it is just he didn't know why. Will then revealed they were going to save Jack Sparrow. Sao Feng was angered at this, and after realizing one of his men was a spy, he ordered his men to attack Elizabeth and Barbossa. Gibbs and the rest of the crew were ready, and through swords through the cracks of the floor of the bathhouse, arming Elizabeth and Barbossa.

"Drop your weapons! Or I kill the man."
"...Kill him, he's not our man."
"If he's not with you, and he's not with us...who's he with?
"
Sao Feng, Hector Barbossa and Will Turner about Steng.[src]

Then, the EITC and the Royal Marines break in, and attack the pirates. Elizabeth, Barbossa, Will, Sao Feng, and the rest of both side's crews run off and take the battle to the streets.

During the battle, even Jack the Monkey and Cotton's Parrot assisted. Tia Dalma herself killed a few Royal Marines. Sao Feng corners Will at sword point, and believes he has been betrayed to the EITC. Will then pulls out his own knife and reasons with Sao Feng. He reveals to Sao Feng that he needs the Black Pearl to free his father, and if Will would get the Pearl, Sao Feng could make a deal with Beckett, and Sao Feng would be able to live. Sao Feng gave Will the charts, and also gave him a ship and a crew.

On the ship Sao Feng gave Will, Barbossa named himself captain of the Hai Peng, and set sail for World's End.

With the Hai Peng set sail, the ship sailed through a frozen sea, most likely near Antarctica. Pintel and Ragetti complain about the cold, and wonder why Tia Dalma couldn't bring Jack Sparrow back the way she did for Barbossa, only to be confronted by Tia Dalma herself. She explains to the two of them that Jack's body and soul has been taken to a place not of death, but punishment, meaning Jack is alive, but can not die while he is in Davy Jones' Locker. Will and Tai Huang examine Sao Feng's charts, and decipher two phrases "Over the edge, over again" and "Sun Rise Sets, Flash of Green." Will seeks Barbossa to learn his opinion of the riddle, who then consults Gibbs about the Green Flash. A green flash was a green beam of light that shoots into the sky, and Pintel added on that it happens when a soul switches worlds. Barbossa then sails the Hai Peng into a dark cave, to lead the ship to its final destination.

With Beckett arriving to see the damage the Dutchman has unleashed on a pirate fleet, he realizes that Jones needs to be controlled better. Beckett, Mercer, Norrington, Governor Weatherby Swann, and many EITC Marines board the Dutchman and take instant control. The Dead Man's Chest, along with Jones' heart is brought aboard, with company guards watching the chest at all times. Beckett intimidates Jones by reminding him of the Kraken's death, and claiming Jones would be killed if he didn't obey the company's orders. Beckett, Mercer, and Swann leave the Dutchman with Admiral Norrington in charge, with Davy Jones no longer controlling the Dutchman. Beckett later has Governor Swann killed after finding out that the governor knew too much about the Dead Man's Chest.

World's End[]

Tia Dalma consults Will on what must be done to bring Jack back when they are about the reach the Farthest Gate. Will, realizes they are about to transfer worlds, then consults Barbossa. Barbossa declares they are lost, but they have found what they are looking for. Will then tries to redirect the ship, realizes they are about to go over a giant waterfall. Barbossa cancels the command, and sails the ship straight over the waterfall, plunging the Hai Peng to its destruction, and the crew towards Jack Sparrow.

However, Jack Sparrow is having hallucinations, believing the Pearl is crewed by several dozen copies of himself, each with a distinct personality. Jack then tries to figure a way out, and knows the only way out is in the water on a ship. Jack tries to pull the Pearl across the desert with nothing but a rope, but Sparrow soon comes to pass out.

With Tia Dalma arriving in the Locker, she placed an enchantment on several hundred rocks in the desert, turning them into crabs. Under her command, they begin to move the Black Pearl to the shore line, to when Jack wakes up and chases after his ship.

The crew arrives at the shoreline, looking for Sparrow. Barbossa assures the crew Sparrow is alive in the Locker and is near. Tia Dalma confirms this as the Black Pearl sails through the sand hills into the ocean. Jack Sparrow comes ashore to meet with his crew, whom he believes to be more hallucinations. He then complains to each person he is familiar with, not realizing it is the real person. After seeing Elizabeth, Jack's murderer, he comes to realize that they are real, and reveals to the crew that Elizabeth abandoned Jack when the crew was fleeing from the Kraken. Jack agrees to let the crew come, but when Sparrow tries to use his compass to find his direction, his compass seems to be broken, and is going in circles. Barbossa then intimidates Jack as he holds Sao Feng's charts.

Will and Elizabeth meet below the Pearl's deck, and discuss Elizabeth's "murder" of Jack. Elizabeth claims she had no choice, ad it was her problem alone, yet Will shared it with her. Elizabeth storms off after Will doubts his trust in her.

Jack and Barbossa meet in the Pearl's cabin, and discuss damage to the cabin after the battle with the Flying Dutchman and the Kraken. Jack and Barbossa even argue as to the ship's direction in the endless seas of the locker. They then fight about who gets control of the helm.

The lost souls in Davy Jones' Locker.

While Pintel and Ragetti are fishing, they are shocked to see the souls of those who have died at sea float in the water. They decide to drop cannon balls on them, but are stopped by Tia Dalma, who shows shame to the souls. She then tells them of Davy Jones' duty, he was to ferry those who die at sea to the other realm, and every ten years, he could come ashore to be with his true love. Dalma also reveals that Calypso gave Jones this job, to which Jones abandoned. They then spot boats coming.

The crew of the Black Pearl begins to react, and Gibbs even arms himself. Will and Tia Dalma warn him not to.

The boats only contain the souls of the dead who were supposed to be ferried to the afterlife by Davy Jones, but he abandoned that duty and was thus cursed.

One of the boats contain the soul of Governor Weatherby Swann, murdered on Beckett's order. Swann refuses to board the Pearl as he is at peace, but informs them that whoever kills Davy Jones has to take his place and offers to give Elizabeth's love to her mother.

Jack figures out that the clue means that at sundown the Black Pearl needs to be capsized and he does this, leading the crew in rocking the ship. The plan works and the Black Pearl capsizes, then teleports right-side up to the living world with the green flash as the sun goes down, resurrecting Jack. Also, escaping from the Locker seems to repair the damage the Pearl took in the Kraken attack.

Seeing that causes Jack to agree to go to the Brethern Court. Upon seeing a dead body in a nearby stream, the crew realizes they've been betrayed and race back to the Pearl which is surrounded by the Empress and the Endeavour. However, Sao Feng betrays his deal with Will and takes the Pearl for his own while he is betrayed by Beckett who takes the Pearl for his own as its the only ship that has a chance of facing off against the Flying Dutchman. Jack is sent to the Endeavour where he meets with Beckett and makes a deal with him: Jack will lead Beckett to Shipwreck Cove and bring out the pirates for Beckett and Beckett in turn will clear his debt with Davy Jones. On the Pearl, Barbossa makes Sao Feng a deal: help them escape Beckett and he'll let him have Elizabeth who Feng believes is Calypso. Feng agrees and the Empress and Pearl attack the Endeavour causing some damage to it. Jack escapes in the commotion and uses a cannon to swing on a rope back to the Pearl, escaping. The Pearl and Empress escape and the Endeavour is unable to immediately follow as Jack's cannon shot toppled the main mast. Beckett orders his crew to signal the Flying Dutchman to follow Sao Feng while he follows Jack Sparrow. Jack orders Will thrown in the brig for his actions.

Elizabeth Swann and Admiral James Norrington

The Dutchman finds the Empress and attacks, killing Sao Feng. Sao Feng makes Elizabeth the new captain and Pirate Lord in his place. The Empress crew are captured, but Norrington, still in command of the Dutchman, orders them put in the brig and the Empress towed. Elizabeth angrily confronts him about his actions and her father's death, which shocks him as he didn't know. In the brig, Elizabeth encounters Bootstrap Bill who is now so far gone that he doesn't remember Will. Later that night, Norrington frees Elizabeth and her crew and helps them escape to the Empress. He refuses to leave the ship and is confronted by the demented Bootstrap. Norrington sacrifices any chance of his own escape in order to save Elizabeth whom he still loves and is mortally wounded by Bootstrap. The Empress gets away and heads to Shipwreck Cove while Jones offers Norrington a place on his crew. Norrington instead stabs Jones's shoulder (which Jones takes to mean "no") before dying. Jones and his crew mutiny against Beckett's remaining forces, but Mercer takes over instead, using two cannons pointed at the Dead Man's Chest by Murtogg and Mullroy to force Jones to comply, which he agrees to do "for now."

The road to Shipwreck Cove[]

"Think like me, it'll come to you."

Will escapes the Pearl's brig and begins sending the bodies of Beckett's men (killed in the earlier battle) tied to barrels as a signal to Beckett. Jack finds him, but as Will actions help his overall scheme, he doesn't stop him. Jack offers to kill Jones instead of Will and set his father free so Will doesn't have to be bound to the Dutchman and Jack can be immortal. Will agrees and Jack, after giving Will his compass, shoves him off the ship with the next body. Will is then picked up by the Endeavour and meets with Beckett and Jones and makes a deal with them: he leads them to Shipwreck Cove and Jones allows his father to go free which the two agree to. Will supplies them with Jack's compass to find the way there. Also, Jones is shocked to hear of Jack's rescue from the Locker and reveals it was he who told the First Brethren Court how to bind Calypso as he loved her and she never met him after ten years, which angered him and caused his abandonment of his duty.

The Brethren Court finally meets in Shipwreck Cove and could not come to any sort of agreement. Elizabeth surprises everyone by showing up and revealing she was now a Pirate Lord. Barbossa wants to release Calypso, but no one can agree on that course of action. Jack and Elizabeth both want to go to war with Beckett, but only a Pirate King can declare war. Everyone votes for themselves and Jack surprises everyone by voting for Elizabeth. Elizabeth is thus elected Pirate King and declares war on Cutler Beckett and the East India Trading Company. The pirate fleet heads out to face Beckett's armada and finds to their shock a massive fleet of three hundred ships led by the Flying Dutchman and the HMS Endeavour.

Parley between the two sides on the sandbar.

Realizing that they're vastly outnumbered, the pirates call for a parley with Beckett and his men. It is agreed to and on a sandbar, Barbossa, Jack and Elizabeth meet with Beckett, Will and Davy Jones, who stands in a bucket of water. Realizing Jack's plan, Elizabeth exchanges Jack for Will and Jack is given to Davy Jones to repay his debt. Beckett admits to having Elizabeth's father killed and tells Elizabeth that if the pirates surrender only most of them will die and if they fight all of them will die and those are their only choices. Elizabeth declares that they will fight and Beckett will die. Parley ended, both sides return to their ships.

At the Black Pearl, Barbossa uses the Pieces of Eight to try to release Calypso. He fails, but Ragetti tries and succeeds. Before Calypso can do anything, Will reveals to her that it was Davy Jones who betrayed her (having learned that while with Beckett) and she grows to giant size and escapes as a bunch of crabs. The pirates lose hope, but Elizabeth gives a rousing speech to them, encouraging them. At her order the pirates hoist the colors and prepare for battle. Beckett, arrogant in his superiority, dispatches the Flying Dutchman alone to do battle while the pirates send out only the Black Pearl. Calypso creates a maelstrom and massive hurricane and the Pearl and Dutchman enter it to do battle.

The two ships go into the abyss and began open fire on each other. When they got closer, crewmembers of each ship board each other's ship. Meanwhile, Jack manages to escape the Dutchman's brig using a trick taught to him by Will and retrieves the Dead Man's Chest from Murtogg and Mullroy. During the battle, a cannon blast from the Pearl takes out the marines stationed at the helm. Jones takes this opportunity to kill Mercer and take back the key to the Dead Man's Chest, allowing him to regain control of the Dutchman, although he allows the battle with the Pearl to continue. As Jones goes to retrieve the Dead Man's Chest, he has a run-in with Sparrow as he was making off with it. Before he could retrieve the chest, Jack slips from him by taking a rope and escaped to the Dutchman 's mast. Enraged, Jones transports to Sparrow's location and engages him in a duel on the masts of the Dutchman.

On the Black Pearl, as Royal Marines and Dutchman crewmen fight the Pearl's crew, Will and Elizabeth have Barbossa marry them in the ensuing battle. In the masts, Jack manages to disarm Jones and cut off one of his tentacles, but his sword is broken in return. After Will defeated an EITC soldier, he sees Jack and Jones with the chest and swings over to the Dutchman to help Jack retrieve the chest. Jones manages to have the chest in his possession, as well as have Jack thrown from the mast. Jack got a hold of one of the ship's ropes and uses his pistol to shoot the chest from Jones' grasp. Will does battle with his father and defeats but doesn't kill him. Jack and Jones both manage to get the chest and continue their fight on the Dutchman's deck, in which Jones knocks Jack out. Before he got to the chest, Elizabeth intervenes and fights Jones, but loses. Will tries to kill him from behind, but forgets his heart isn't there anymore and is defeated.

Before Jones can kill him, Jack reveals that he gained possession of Jones' heart and threatens him with it. Jones took it as a bluff and stabs Will anyway, which enrages Bootstrap Bill who engages him in battle. Bootstrap loses, but Jack places his broken sword in Will's hand and helps him stab Jones' heart with it, killing Davy Jones. Will dies of his wound and as the crew approach to cut out his heart, Jack and Elizabeth escape on a makeshift parasail and watch the Dutchman sink. The two are then picked up by the Black Pearl which survived and escaped although severely damaged.

Destruction of the Endeavour and death of Lord Cutler Beckett[]

Destruction of the HMS Endeavour

Despite losing the Flying Dutchman, Beckett remains confident of his victory and takes out the Endeavour to destroy the Black Pearl personally. Jack, to everyone's surprise, orders the crew to hold all canvas (sails) and not run. As the Endeavour approaches the Pearl, the Flying Dutchman suddenly resurfaces and Beckett is happy as he believes that the ship is still on his side. Unknown to him, the ship is under the command of its new captain, Will Turner and is now on the pirates' side. The ship and crew revert to their original forms and Will orders his new crew to ready the ship's weapons. Jack orders the same thing and the Black Pearl and the Flying Dutchman begin a double broadside on the Endeavour. Beckett was so shocked, he is unable to give orders. This forced his second-in command, Lieutenant Groves, to give the order to abandon ship. Some of the crew do so, but Beckett remains on board. The double broadside penetrates the power magazine, destroying the Endeavour in a series of massive explosions and killing Cutler Beckett.

Now leaderless, the remaining ships in Beckett's armada turned to flee. As they turned away, Marty alerted the crews of this action, which led the pirates to celebrate aboard their ships by cheering and throwing their hats into the air. Mullroy and Murtogg, who escaped by boarding the Black Pearl during the battle, join the Pearl's crew as pirates. With the war over, the pirates were now able to continue with their freedom-loving ways.

And so, Will and Elizabeth spend their one day together on a beach and she promised she will wait for him and keep his heart safe. After a flash of green Will and the Flying Dutchman disappeared into the horizon.

But as they head to the docks, they discover that Barbossa had led another mutiny against Jack. Barbossa had made off with the Pearl and left a dinghy in its place. Gibbs was also left sleeping in the docks until Jack woke Gibbs up to tell him of the Pearl being missing. After Jack got slapped by Scarlett and Giselle, Jack and Gibbs exchanged a customary farewell and went on their separate ways.

As the Black Pearl sailed, Barbossa was feeding Jack the Monkey until some of his crewmen told him that they weren't settled leaving Jack Sparrow behind. To ease their guilt, Barbossa presented their next treasure the Fountain of Youth. However, once he showed them Sao Feng's charts, Barbossa discovered that the middle of the map had been removed by Jack Sparrow himself.

While aboard the dinghy, Jack (who had anticipated this act) took out the charts and, drinking a bottle of rum, began his search for the Fountain of Youth.
