Fortune Red is a fortune telling machine at Disneyland. Originally, it was part of the Pirate's Arcade Museum, but was moved to the Pieces of Eight shop when the arcade closed.
Fortune Red features a wooden cabinet with an iron bound glass box. Inside is a red-bearded pirate gesturing at a treasure map. When a guest put a coin in the machine, Red nods, turns his head, and waves his finger around the map. As he does this, the machine plays a 30-second snippet of Yo Ho (A Pirate's Life for Me). After the music finishes, a card is dispensed.
Fortune Red dispenses twenty-four different fortunes. Each fortune contained a bit of advice as well as a reference to a Disneyland attraction. The back of each card had an illustrated history of Jolly Rogers.
Trivia[]
- A mini game on the official website for Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl was titled "Fortune Red". However, it had nothing else in common with the Fortune Red found at Disneyland, but instead allowed the user to design a virtual pirate flag and send it to their friends.
