When compiling timeline information and dates surrouding the events of Dead Men Tell No Tales on the Wiki, the graphic novel adptation's claim that the movie takes place in 1751 has been used by editors in conjunction with the behind-the-scenes statement that On Stranger Tides took place in 1750 (a year eariler) to reach certain conclusions.
However, that model doesn't work, since in Dead Men the movie itself, it's stated that there is a five-year gap between the two movies, not a single year (Jack was carrying arround the Black Pearl in that bottle for five years). So, one of the two dates -- either the "word of God" that On Stranger Tides is set in 1750 or the graphic novel's timestamp of 1751 for Dead Men is wrong. So, how do we sort this out and pick which one is the "correct" one?

- Exactly. Barbossa didn't say "I killed Blackbeard five winters ago" which would make a five-year gap between the two movies. He said the Pearl was trapped in the bottle by Blackbeard five winters ago. Those two events are not the same. - Oh, good point. Makes sense. I guess I was misremembering the movie, since I could've sworn that Jack had said that he'd had the bottled Pearl for five years. Oh, well. Thanks for the clarification.
