Glasgow was the largest city in Scotland, situated on the River Clyde in the country's west central lowlands. A person from Glasgow is known as a Glaswegian.
Both Bootstrap Bill Turner[1] and his son, Will Turner[2], were born in Glasgow. Will and his mother lived there after Bootstrap left to become a "merchant sailor", though in reality became a pirate, though at some point they moved to England prior to the death of Will's mother.
Behind the scenes
- Glasgow currently doesn't appear in the POTC universe, but it was mentioned in three POTC-related references: the first screenplay draft of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Will Turner action figures for Dead Man's Chest, and one of the previous versions of the official Pirates of the Caribbean websites.
- Regarding on how Davy Jones would speak, the Pirates producers needed something that would sound different from all the other characters and to give Jones a bit of power and authority. Director Gore Verbinski at one point suggested that Davy Jones should speak Dutch, taking from that Davy Jones' ship was called the "Flying Dutchman", or Norweigan. Though the previous suggestions were all authentic within the story, actor Bill Nighy decided to use a Scottish accent; despite the fact that Nighy's mother grew up in Glasgow, Nighy himself had stated it was because he could do an accent.[3][4]
- Alex Norton (Captain Bellamy) was born in Glasgow.
