Gore Verbinski (born March 16, 1964) is an American film director and writer. He directed the first three Pirates of the Caribbean films: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Dead Man's Chest, and At World's End. In 2006, the second installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean films, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, became his most successful film, as the third film ever to gross over $1 billion at the international box office. It is currently the fourth highest grossing film of all time.
After Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End was released, he decided not to direct Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, as he wanted to do other projects which included BioShock. After his departure, Verbinski was replaced by Rob Marshall as the director of the fourth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean films.
