Biography[]
Little is known of Grimes' life other than that he lived in Saint Martin, where he became the owner and barkeep of a tavern called Grimes Pub by 1751.[3] One rainy day, Grimes was in his pub as Jack Sparrow wandered into the local watering hole, covered in mud and looking for a beverage to quench his thirst. When the barkeep asked him to show him his silver, of which he had none.[1] However, the stranger offered a trade, putting his compass on the counter. The compass began to shake and rattle, but before the stranger could take it back, Grimes took it and gave him a bottle of rum. Through unknown circumstances, this compass would be transferred from Grimes to the sea witch Shansa.[2] His further fate is unknown.
