The HMS Bounty was built in 1960 by Smith and Ruhland in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, for the film Mutiny on the Bounty. Since it was built specifically for filming, it was constructed with unusually large rooms.
The Bounty was used to represent the Edinburgh Trader in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. It also appeared in several other films, including Treasure Island (1990), Yellow Beard, Pirates, and Sponge Bob Square Pants, The Movie.
When not used for filming, the Bounty is open to the public. Tours are conducted at Tall Ship shows and people can sail with the ship for a fee. Currently, the Bounty is recreating the voyage of the origin ship.
The Bounty is crewed by a combination of volunteers and paid crew men. While no experience is necessary to join the Bounty volunteer crew, they require sometime spent working on restoration or dockside maintenance.
