Ignorance Is Bliss is a musical theme composed by Hans Zimmer for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. It appears as a track in the flim's complete sountrack.

Track DescriptionEdit

Ignorance is Bliss Sample

Themes from "Blackbeard" and "On Stranger Tides" as heard in "Ignorance Is Bliss".

The first section of this track begins with a marching ostinato which uses the same rhythm as the three note figure used as the British theme. This is followed by interpolations of the theme from "On Stranger Tides", usually the first three notes.

The second section begins with a broken chord pattern crescendoing to a full statement of Blackbeard's theme, underpinned by a triplet by a triplet rhythm on the last beat of every bar. This is followed by the minor theme heard at the start of "Blackbeard". After a few notes of Jack's theme, the theme from "On Stranger Tides" is heard again, this time in a complete majestic statement. The opening ostinato can be heard underneath this.

The final section consists of interpolations of the "On Stranger Tides" theme and the mermaid theme.

The first part of the track plays during the destruction of the HMS Providence. The rest of the track plays as Jack Sparrow leads Blackbeard's crew through a mysterious island to find the Santiago.

  • This track is also known as "The Beach - To The Fountain - Jungle Trek" from the alternative track listing.
