The Jewel of Atlantis was an ancient mythical treasure that was known to had led towards the destruction of the ancient city known as Atlantis. Time after that, the jewel was only found in Shansa's cave. According to legends the jewel was powerful enough to breathe life into the dead and take life away from the living.



An old legend stated that an ancient mythical treasure was associated with the city of Atlantis. However, the jewel somehow led to the destruction of the city, which led to the belief that the jewel may have had magical powers.

"The Sparrow, like all great captains, is a small part of the sea. When all these parts are together, perhaps the picture of the sea will become clear, and her greatest treasures revealed."
"Are you saying you can use these memories to find?"
"With the power of the Jewel of Atlantis, the East India Trading Company will rip itself apart. Isn't that what you want?
Shansa and an unknown pirate[src]

During the War Against Piracy, the infamous pirate Jack Sparrow and his companion Joshamee Gibbs, discovered that the individual who had the jewels was the sea witch Shansa. The witch resided within a cave that no map could find, that was until Jack used his compass. However, the witch took away his memories before he could get the jewel.

Shortly after, an unknown pirate went in search of Jack's memories and the witch told him that with the power of the jewel, the East India Trading Company would rip itself apart but the pirate ignored it, even though it was what he wanted and kept demanding Jack's memories.

  1. The Jewel was first mentioned in Pirates of the Caribbean: Tides of War, which is set after the Battle of Calypso's maelstrom. The timeline established in On Stranger Tides, Dead Men Tell No Tales, and their tie-in materials sets the Battle of Calypso's maelstrom in 1729.
