Conceicao was a colony in the Caribbean under Portuguese rule in the 1600's. The island of the same name which the town was built on is just northwest of the Spanish isle of Isla Muelle. The archipelago in which it was located is in the southern Lesser Antilles in the South Archipelago.

The island was a haven and stop off for smugglers, they even had a Smuggler's Haven located deep in the jungle.

History[]

"Our colony was established only 40 years ago, but because of its good location, the founders opened trade routes and quickly built up the city. Now it’s one of the fastest-growing colonies in our archipelago."
―Conceicao citizen[src]

Conceicao was established around the year 1590. It became a hub for traders from the surrounding colonies, such as the neighboring Isla Muelle. Conceicao was never laid under siege, though a fort was constructed for defense. Jacinto Arcibaldo Barreto was appointed as the colony's governor. At some point prior to 1630, a smugglers' colony was laid out in the jungle beyond the town's outskirts headed by Camilo Machado. The explorer Captain Raoul Rheims took refuge here from his former employer, Governor Robert Silehard of Redmond, after the latter turned on him.

Points of Interest[]

Conceicao colony[]

The town proper was moderately-sized, with all the amenities of a typical Caribbean colony. In the central square lay the governor's residence and small church. The town's architecture was similar to that of Isla Muelle. Besides the store, tavern, shipyard, and merchant stalls, several private houses dotted the village. The assassin and fencing expert Amerigo Vieira hid in one of these.

Smugglers' Lair[]

Conceicaosmugglerstown

This was a walled settlement in the Conceicao jungles that served as a hub of smugglers. Camilo Machado headed this hideout. Several armed guards provided security to the inhabitants (though the inhabitants themselves were mostly armed already). Under Machado's rule, those branded as enemies to the law (whether or not this was justified) could seek refuge here, such as the rogue Captain Raoul Rheims, whom Governor Silehard betrayed.

Leviathan Rock[]

This was the shore that led to the Smugglers' Lair. This was a favorite location for smugglers to land while escorted by paid captains. The location was named after the large rock that stood near the beach.

Sunny Haven[]

Conceicaosunnyhaven

This was another shore, located closer to the town than Leviathan Rock. Despite this, smugglers also frequented this beach as well.
