The Lindesfarne was a British merchant ship that sailed during the early 1700s. On one journey from England to Gibraltar, the ship was attacked and captured by the pirate ship Le Requin. The pirates tortured one of the captured prisoners, the young Cutler Beckett, before his patrons from the East India Trading Company paid the ransom.
