- "You know...Lizzie. I am captain of a ship. And being captain of a ship, I could in fact perform a marriage, right here, right on this deck...right now."
- ―Jack Sparrow to Elizabeth Swann
Marriage (also called matrimony or wedlock) was the official union of two individuals, usually a union of mutual love and attraction. Such a union was often formalized via a wedding ceremony or marriage ceremony. The ceremony may be officiated either by a religious official, a government official or a captain of a ship.[1]
History
Prior to the War Against Piracy, Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann were ready to be married until Lord Cutler Beckett interrupted their wedding day upon his arrival to arrest them.[1] It wasn't until they fought in the titanic battle around the maelstrom were Will and Elizabeth married, presided by Captain Hector Barbossa.[2]
