Maynard was a lord and the governor of Pamlico Island during the Age of Piracy. At some point, he was capable enough to obtain the title of lord and become the governor of Pamlico Island, one of the most important bases of the British Royal Navy in the Caribbean.

Lord Maynard appeared in the comic "The Lost Sea" published in 2008. While unconfirmed, it is possible that Lord Maynard is named after Robert Maynard, an officer of British Royal Navy who killed the notorious Blackbeard in real-world history.
