Good good! No problems is what we want to see. In terms of things being quiet, there are always things you can do to get the community involved and spark some interest. Are there any big goals you want to accomplish on the wiki? Any areas you're unhappy with?
Luckily, Hollywood Reporter recently announced a reboot is in development! Might be good to start an article about the reboot movie series.
In terms of other projects, it might good to have Discussions enabled here as that can get community members talking about the Pirates of the Caribbean movies and what the reboot might look like! It's a great to way get the community interacting. I can enable Discussions for you.
Perhaps a new background design for the wiki might be good, showing some of the characters and ships from the franchise. I can help with that as well if you like!
Finally, you could consider making infoboxes on this wiki portable to help this wiki be more accessible to users viewing it from mobile devices. As it stands, 59% of your wiki readership view the wiki from the mobile skin. I'm more than happy to help with the transfer to portable infoboxes, and they can be made to look identical to current ones. :)
Hopefully these project ideas give you something to consider and give you further ways to develop the wiki! :D
The problem with all the news about the Pirates reeboot, or even Pirates 6, if there's any chance for the current series to be continued, is that it takes forever for Disney to confirm those news, and in 99% of the cases they will turn out to be fake. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see another Pirates movie, but I'm very skeptical about all the news that don't come from Disney, Johnny Depp, Jerry Bruckheimer, Terry Rossio, or some other official Pirates-related source. The only way to be completely sure about this subject would be to ask Mister Mazin himself via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or whatever he's using these days.
We already have the forums where our users can discuss everything Pirates-related. The blogs are also good for announcing and discussing some new Pirates movie/comic book/video game...
A new background sounds like a good idea. I already thought about making a DMTNT wallpaper to use it instead of the old background. I'll write a blog and see what the rest of the community thinks about that idea.
Good stuff! Yeah I get what you mean re news/rumours. Generally speaking though THR is very reliable, although they have been wrong before. Makes sense to wait for official confirmation, hopefully we hear something soon.
In terms of forums, they are a good platform for sure but are a little bit of date. Discussions have a bit of a better design and are more oriented towards social chat. An advantage of Discussions as well is that they make this wiki eligible for inclusion on the Fandom app. It makes your wiki really easy to access on mobile devices from a convenient app on a mobile device.
Yeah, a background really helps make a wiki pop. Good idea to message the community. See if they have any background suggestions as well. There are some really talented creators out there. Be sure to Announce that blog post so more community members will see it! :)
I'm an employee from the Sword and the Stone that made the weapons for the movies. We have a couple that we're trying to track down in the film as we can't remember which actor used them. Is this something you'd be interested in helping out with?
I think it might be better to ask this question on the POTC subreddit or some similar website. The only weapons I was interested in were the ones used by the main characters. I wish I could help you more but I can't. Sorry.
Hello, Black Caesar! First, congratulations on becoming the newest admin of this fine Wiki! If you need any help from a veteran editor, you just have to ask. And second, since I'm not the admin anymore, would you be so kind to change the protection level on my userpage? I can't edit it anymore. Thanks in advance.
Hi again! I'm just dropping by to let you know of a new scheme introduced at Fandom called Editor Rewards. This is a great new scheme designed to reward editors on Fandom, with merchandise ranging from free video games, hoodies, collectibles, and more!
To find out more about the scheme, please feel free to read the Introduction to Editor Rewards blog post Fandom staff posted. Also, please do leave feedback in the comments section of that blog as staff will be able to respond quickly and answer any questions you may have.
I think the Editor Rewards are a good idea. The Achievements badges are nice and all but sometimes it's good to know a hard working editor can win something even better. So, how exactly do we win those rewards? All we have to do is work hard and hope for the best, right?
Hey! So yeah, the rewards are decided by staff members who work in the associated verticals. So, for example, Movies/TV staff members would discuss users who they feel are deserving of the awards.
If you keep working hard and contributing, you stand a much better chance of getting your name in there for sure. Keep working hard on the wiki and improving it, seeing if there are ways to drive in more viewers and users. :)
I wanted you to know that we will be soon making an interview with Terry Rossio, one of the writers of the Pirates of the Caribbean film series. Given that it would be a 25-questions interview, I would like to know if perhaps you have any questions for him (can be from behind the scenes info to issues about canon).
Write me your questions there as soon as possible, please!
Hey! Sorry for the second message at such short notice! Just letting you know Fandom plans to extend a test it's running on other wikis to this one. It aims at improving the search engine ranking for wikis including this one.
Some details: We will be automatically redirecting anonymous users who land on file pages to the first article page that the file is used on. Our hope is that this will help anonymous users find what they're looking for more easily. During the test, we'll measure whether this has a positive impact on search engine rankings.
Logged-in users will see absolutely no change, so you may not notice anything of this test - I'm just letting you know out of courtesy and in case anonymous users approach you with questions.
This feature includes some really insightful statistics that should allow you guys to inform some wiki decisions, such as:
Top viewed pages
# of page views (daily over the past 30 days)
Most visited files
Desktop vs mobile sessions
So as I mentioned above, this feature is really great as it allows you to see what areas are doing very well and how you can capitalise on them. For example, one of your current most popular searches is Pirates of the Caribbean gallery. It sounds minor, but as quite a few readers are searching using that specific term, you could redirect that term to Category:Galleries so readers can find galleries nice and easily. This is just one way this new feature is super useful!
Hopefully you like this feature, it's been highly requested for some time and we would really appreciate your feedback on it. For more help with it, please feel free to ask me questions and also refer to these two super useful articles:
Hey, sorry for not replying earlier. I've been busy these past few days. I'll take a look at the new feature. As for the file test, it sounds cool. I'm all for increasing efficency of the Wikia. Cheers.
Hi again! You may have already seen it, but Fandom now has an official Discord server! You can chat about all things pop culture and ask your Fandom related questions there too. Here are the details! :)
