- "Nobody loves me, and I'm going to be killed by pirates, and I never even got to see Paris, and I don't want to die wearing this horrible color—"
- ―Marcella
Paris was the capital and a populous city of France.
History[]
When the British merchant ship the Lindesfarne was captured by the pirate crew of the Le Requin, one of the captives, the young East India Trading Company operative Cutler Beckett, unwisely insulted their leader Captain Christophe-Julien de Rapièr, by telling him that his fancy clothes were outdated in both London and Paris.[1] About ten years later, the EITC merchant seaman Captain Jack Sparrow was sent to find the mythical island of Kerma aboard the merchant vessel Wicked Wench, Sparrow attended a dinner with the nobility of Kerma. When the scribe Psamtick, through the interpreter Chamba, asked Jack if they had large cities where he came from, the captain wondered what Psamtick would think of London, or Paris, or Singapore.[2]
During the quest for the Shadow Gold, within two years after Jack Sparrow returned to a pirate's life as captain of the Black Pearl, Constance Magliore, under the guise of "Marcella" by her brother Jean, believed nobody loved her, she was going to be killed "wearing this horrible color" by pirates, and lamented that she never got to see Paris.[3]
At some point before the promotion ceremony of James Norrington at Fort Charles, Governor Weatherby Swann began wearing a frilled cravat that came from Paris.[4][5]
Behind the scenes[]
- "...And that's why I will never willingly go back to Paris. But I digress. Elizabeth -- are you there? Are you even listening to me?"
- ―Weatherby Swann
Paris has yet to appear in the Pirates of the Caribbean universe. It would first be mentioned in a production draft for the 2003 film Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.[6] Officially, Paris would be first mentioned in the 2006-2007 reference books Pirates of the Caribbean: The Visual Guide and The Complete Visual Guide,[4][5] as well as Legends of the Brethren Court: The Turning Tide.
Paris is the location of Disneyland Paris. The park featured rides and attractions like Peter Pan's Flight, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Walt Disney Studios Park's CinéMagique.[citation needed]
Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey was brought to an audition for the role of Syrena the mermaid in the 2011 film Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides when the director Rob Marshall accidentally saw a photo of her while reading a magazine at the airport in Paris.[7]
JB Blanc (EITC clerk) and Georges Trillat (Skinny man) were born in Paris.
