Not much is known about this man's life. It is known however, that he became a pirate, and that he was capable enough to become a captain. His skeletal remains would reside in a finely appointed private Captain's Quarters; an ornate, subterranean chamber, surrounded by the spoils of a lifetime of treachery and ill-gotten gains. The Pirate Captain was known to be a "man of delicate taste", mainly because his quarters was rigged with the finest furnishings money didn't buy. This bony buccaneer lied in bed holding a magnifying glass over his reading material, a treasure map, while a nearby harpsichord plays a melancholy rendering of a famous pirate chantey.

Behind the scenes

• This character was named "Pirate Captain" in the Pirates of the Caribbean: From the Magic Kingdom to the Movies book.
• Before working on the fourth film On Stranger Tides, the film crew had no idea how to introduce Ponce de León into the story. They later decided to use the skeleton in the bed as an overt link to the original Pirates of the Caribbean attraction, resulting from director Rob Marshall's research of the ride before he began filming On Stranger Tides. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer stated, "The Ponce de León cabin set symbolizes what we've tried to do in all of the films, which is to reference the original ride but re-invent in fresh and exciting ways."
