Richard Platt (born April 15, 1953) is a British writer of nonfiction and information books and multimedia works. He is an acknowledged authority on pirates and was a costume consultant for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. He has written more than 60 books, including DK's Eyewitness Pirate and Eyewitness Shipwreck. Richard Platt was the author of both Pirates of the Caribbean: The Visual Guide and, along with co-author Glenn Dakin, The Complete Visual Guide.[1] While writing the books, Disney refused to give Platt any information about the final scenes, which made writing it rather difficult for him.

Trivia[]

  • Richard Platt lives the town of Hastings, which is a little pirate obsessed with hosting an annual Pirate Day. On July 22, 2012, the largest gathering of pirates was achieved by 14,231 participants at an event organised by Roger Crouch and the Town of Hastings (United Kingdom) on Pelham Beach, Hastings, East Sussex, United Kingdom. As of 2022, the town still held the world record for the maximum number of pirates gathered.[2]
