"Just up the road, quick left, and you're at the bayou shack of the beautifully odd Tia Dalma."
"I'm no fool, Jack Sparrow. I know the mystic is not so easy to find.
"
Jack Sparrow and Royce[src]

Royce was an EITC Admiral who sailed in the Caribbean Sea during the Age of Piracy. On one occasion, he hired Jack Sparrow to lead him to the mystic Tia Dalma.

Biography[]

"Let us bargain. You get this 15-pound sack of gold, and in return I'm shown the way."
"I enter into this agreement with a note of caution: there is no guarantee we will find Tia Dalma.
"
―Royce and Jack Sparrow[src]

Nothing is known about Royce's early life, or how he even became an admiral. At some point he acquired a map that would lead him to the shack of Tia Dalma, the most famous voodoo priestess in the Caribbean.

He also assured the assistance of the notorious pirate Jack Sparrow, the man who knew the lands around the Pantano River very well. When Royce's ship docked at the mouth of the river, Royce, Jack, and some of Royce's crewmen came ashore to find Tia Dalma.

Their journey wasn't long. Shortly after going into the Cypress Forest, the expedition was ambushed by a group of angry natives. During the fight, Royce's map of the forest was stolen by the attackers and most of his men were killed, leaving only Royce, Sparrow, and two of Royce's officers alive. Without the map, Royce thought he had no chance to find Tia Dalma anymore. However, Sparrow used his tracking abilities to lead the survivors directly to Tia Dalma's shrine, interrupting her Voodoo ritual.

Royce then revealed his true intentions-he was to take Dalma to his superior, Lord Cutler Beckett of the East India Company, who hoped to use Dalma's powers for his own gain. However, the revelation turned Sparrow against Royce, because Beckett was the man who branded Sparrow as a pirate some time earlier. At Tia Dalma's command, a group of zombies emerged from the jungle, attacking Royce's remaining men, while Royce and Sparrow engaged in a fierce duel. During the battle Royce was attacked by two zombies and killed.

Equipment and skills[]

Royce was a skilled swordsman, which he proved when his crew was ambushed in the Cypress Forest. He easily fought against numerous attackers, despite being heavily outnumbered.
