Montanari

Montanari was the best known rumrunner in Port Royal.

"The rumrunners used this island as a cache, came by, and I was able to barter passage off. From the looks of things, they've long been out of business. Probably have your bloody friend Norrington to thank for that."
Jack Sparrow to Elizabeth Swann on the rumrunners[src]

The rumrunners were a group of businessmen who dealt with rum in the Caribbean. They were mostly known for having a cache located at Rumrunner's Isle.

History

Like smugglers, rumrunners were notorious for delivering contraband throughout the Caribbean. The only difference is that instead of delivering illegal spices and other goods, the rumrunners naturally only dealt with rum. These unknown fiends most notably worked off a base island known as Rumrunner's Isle, where they kept a secret cache of food, water and rum. It was on this island where the rumrunners met Jack Sparrow, who was marooned by Captain Hector Barbossa and his crew of the Black Pearl. Jack was able to barter passage off the island with the rumrunners aboard their ship. By the time of Jack's second return to the island, after being marooned yet again, the rumrunners were out of buisness, by the hands of James Norrington of the British Royal Navy.[1]

Behind the scenes

  • In Pirates of the Caribbean Online players could use a map called the Rumrunner's Sea Chart.
  • Historically, the term "rum-running" originated at the start of Prohibition in the United States in 1920, approximately two centuries after the events of The Curse of the Black Pearl.
