- "I am really sick and tired of being hot and tired all the time! Next adventure, I'm looking for the Northwest Passage. Russia and Laplanders. Polar bears and snow and ice. Miles of ice. Those little cute and furry things, like dogs, what do you call them? You know, all whiskers and big eyes. Seals! Yes, seals! Glaciers stretching on forever. Not a single bloody palm tree to be seen."
- ―Jack Sparrow
Russia was a country spanning Eastern Europe and North Asia. It was the largest country in the world, sharing land borders with other countries, including China, as well as maritime boundaries with Japan and the Americas. The history of Russia began with the histories of the East Slavs, which emerged as a recognised group in Europe, and human settlement on the territory. The first East Slavic state arose and adopted Christianity from the Byzantine Empire, beginning the synthesis of Byzantine, Slavic and Scandinavian cultures that defined Russian culture. By the early 18th century, Russia had vastly expanded through conquest, annexation, and the efforts of Russian explorers, developing into the Russian Empire.
History[]
By the time of Age of Piracy, the Pirate Lord of the Caspian Sea would be Lord of the largest enclosed body of water on Earth, sometimes called the world's largest lake, which bordered Russia and Iran, among others.[1]
When young Jack Sparrow and Fitzwilliam P. Dalton III were stuck on Isla Esquelética by the effects of a charmed clock, Sparrow declared that he was tired of being "hot and tired all the time" and decided that his next adventure would be looking for the Northwest Passage, Russia and Laplanders.[2]
Boris "Borya" Palachnik was a Russian pirate who captained many ships named Koldunya, which meant "witch" in Russian, and was the Pirate Lord of the Caspian Sea. After the Russian Pirate Lord was found guilty of rogue piracy, having attacked his friend Hector Barbossa, Borya gave Barbossa a small block of wood that served as one of the Pieces of Eight,[3] passing the title to Barbossa.[1]
