- "The Seref is one of many ships Ammand uses to torture the English Navy."
- ―Unknown
The Seref was a galley during the Age of Piracy. It was most notably owned and captained by Ammand the Corsair, who was known as the scourge of the Barbary Coast and the Pirate Lord of the Black Sea. During the battle between the Fourth Brethren Court and the East India Trading Company, the Seref was part of the pirate fleet facing the EITC Armada.
History[]
- "Abandon ship! We are sinking fast!"
- ―Ammand, under the illusion that the Seref is sinking.
Little is known of the early history of the Seref, only that it was a pirate ship owned and captained by Ammand the Corsair, who was known as the scourge of the Barbary Coast as well as the Pirate Lord of the Black Sea.[3][4] The ship's first known use as Ammand's flagship was during the Day of the Shadow.[2] Ammand continued sailing aboard the Seref over ten years later, by the fourth meeting of the Brethren Court. The Seref would be among throngs of pirates ships lined up in a fleet, all gathered outside the safety of Shipwreck Island, preparing for the inevitable battle against Lord Cutler Beckett and the armada of the East India Trading Company. Ammand stood on the rail as the call "Hoist the colors" spread from ship to ship, along the line, to every pirate in their ragtag fleet.[3] However, the Seref was among the Pirate Lords' ships that was not directly involved in the battle between the Black Pearl and Flying Dutchman in a maelstrom, though they stood witness to Beckett's death aboard the HMS Endeavour.[4] The ship's fate is unknown.
Design and appearance[]
The Seref has three masts, each of them carries a lateen sail, and a great number of oars on each side. This impulse and her streamlined hull indicates that she must be quite fast. Unlike most galleys, she has no superstructure at the aft. Her hull is coloured dark gray with violet shades and her deck and the masts are brown. The sails were originally white but now they are gray from dirt and have some holes.[citation needed]
Behind the scenes[]
- The Seref first appears, albeit unnamed, as Ammand's ship in media relating to the 2007 film Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End,[4] beginning with the junior novelization.[3] Ammand's ship was named Seref in the Pirates of the Caribbean PocketModel game.[1]
- For unknown reasons, she flies Hector Barbossa's Jolly Roger in the PocketModel game.[1]
- "Seref" is a Turkish word for "Honour".[citation needed]
