- "Feast your eyes, captain. All of them, faithful hands before the mast. Every man worth his salt. And crazy to boot."
- ―Joshamee Gibbs on the motley crew
Tearlach was a pirate who resided in Tortuga. He was among the motley crew lined up by Joshamee Gibbs in Captain Jack Sparrow's pursuit of the Black Pearl and Will Turner's attempt to rescue Elizabeth Swann from Hector Barbossa's cursed crew. Tearlach sailed with the other members of Jack's crew aboard the Interceptor to Isla de Muerta. When the Black Pearl chased the Interceptor, Tearlach took part in the battle, which saw the Interceptor destroyed and Jack's crew taken to the brig of the Pearl. After stealing it from Barbossa's crew, Tearlach and the rest of the crew sailed the Black Pearl under Jack Sparrow's command again.
Biography[]
A pirate living in Tortuga, Tearlach was among the motley crew hired to sail aboard the Interceptor, formerly a British Royal Navy vessel, under the notorious pirate Captain Jack Sparrow and young blacksmith Will Turner. Tearlach was lined up alongside eleven other crewmen inspected by Sparrow, Turner, and Sparrow's first mate Joshamee Gibbs, to aid Sparrow's pursuit of the Black Pearl and Turner's attempt to rescue Elizabeth Swann from Hector Barbossa's cursed crew. As the Interceptor first sailed through a treacherous storm, Tearlach and the rest of Jack's crew scurry about with their tasks, trying to keep the ship afloat as Captain Sparrow himself stood at the ship's wheel with his compass. As the Interceptor arrived to Isla de Muerta, Tearlach and Jack's crew looked over the railing as the ship passed through a graveyard of shipwrecks. Tearlach and the other pirates snapped back to work as Jack Sparrow and Will Turner went ashore alone to save Elizabeth, with Jack ordering Gibbs to keep to the Pirate's Code. When Will later came back with a rescued Elizabeth Swann, claiming Jack "fell behind", Tearlach and the rest of Jack's crew followed Gibbs' order, kept to the Code, and sailed on without their captain.[1]
When the Black Pearl started chasing the Interceptor, Tearlach manned the ship's cannons. During the battle, Barbossa's crew boarded the Interceptor, and Tearlach used the butt-end of a musket to beat one attacker. Tearlach survived the battle and was taken prisoner by Barbossa's crew, left in the brig as the Pearl sailed back to Isla de Muerta. Under the watch of two cursed pirates, Mallot and Grapple, Tearlach and the rest of Jack's crew were later freed from their cell by Elizabeth. Elizabeth tried to convince them to help her save Will and Jack, the crew took the Pearl while she left on a longboat. Although they refused to help, Tearlach and the rest of the pirates sailed to rescue Jack Sparrow from the gallows in Port Royal. As Jack boarded the Black Pearl, Tearlach and the crew allowed Sparrow to become captain once more.[1] His further fate is unknown.
