Disney Pirates of the Caribbean 1 is the first issue of the comic book series Pirates of the Caribbean. It was written by Chris Schweizer, illustrated by Joe Flood, and published on September 28, 2016 by Joe Books Ltd. The issue features a story "The Guardians of Windward Cove," which is set between the events of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.

Publisher's summary[]

"Return to the world of Captain Jack Sparrow in these untold tales of pirate adventure on the high seas! After squaring off with Captain Barbossa in a cursed duel, Jack is back on the run. And while Admiral Norrington may have given Jack a head start on his escape, the chase is now on."

Plot[]

Three days after Jack Sparrow's escape from Port Royal, Sparrow and his friends find themselves at Windward Cove, a place seemingly guarded by the undead. However, the skeletons in the Cove are actually nothing but big marionettes on strings pulled by the renegades. Sparrow and their leader, Mutti, find a ship belonging to the bounty hunters. Sparrow boards the ship and frees the imprisoned renegades but later, when the bounty hunters capture Mutti, Sparrow makes a deal with them, promising to lead them to the renegades' village. When they reach Windward Cove Sparrow turns against the bounty hunters. It turns out the skeletons beneath the sand really are the undead and they kill the bounty hunters.

Continuity[]

The story is set in between the Pirates of the Caribbean films The Curse of the Black Pearl and Dead Man's Chest. In the "The Guardians of Windward Cove" publisher's summary, James Norrington is called an admiral, but the story is set only three days after The Curse of the Black Pearl, when Norrington was still a commodore.[2] He doesn't become an admiral until the events of At World's End.[3]
