This fishing boat was a small fishing vessel and boat that sailed somewhere in the ocean. It was most notably crewed by two Turkish sailors, one large and one short. Shortly after the two sailors found Captain Jack Sparrow's tricorne hat, the fishing boat was pulled down by the Kraken.

History[]

Little is known of this small fishing vessel's history prior to Captain Jack Sparrow being given the Black Spot. After Sparrow ordered to leave his tricorne hat behind as the Black Pearl sailed for land to avoid the Kraken, the hat drifted far from the Pearl until the hull of the small fishing vessel passed it somewhere in the sea. A short Turkish sailor retrieved the hat by pulling it from the water with a boat hook. Aboard the fishing trawler, the short sailor and a large Turkish sailor was pleased with the look of the hat and tried it on until a shudder suddenly ran through the boat. From beneath the deck came a loud crunching as the Kraken reached the boat. The sailors staggered as their little vessel rocked and looked wildly around and then down at the hat. Realizing the strange turn of events aboard the boat must have something to do with the hat, the two sailors fought to rid themselves of it. But the deck splintered and the entire boat was pulled straight down. A giant geyser rose up from the sea, raining down wood and bits of canvas. And, in the blink of an eye, the water was still and the fishing boat was no more.[1][2]

Behind the scenes[]

The Turkish fishing boat first appeared in media relating to the 2006 film Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.[1] In Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio's screenplay, it was only called a "FISHING BOAT" with the SHORT TURKISH sailor and the BIG TURKISH sailor.[3] It was also only identified as "a small fishing vessel" or "fishing boat" in Irene Trimble's junior novelization.[2] The name "Turkish fishing boat" was used at least once, notably for an issue for CineFex.[4] "Turkish fishing trawler" was used in the 2010 update of the official Pirates website.[5]

The starboard side of the Providence was dressed to portray the fishing boat in the film. The portside was used as a background British Royal Navy sloop in Port Royal. The side portraying the Turkish vessel was stripped of paint and dressed down, and an extra mast was added via computer-generated effects.[6]
