Not all new actors, you say?

It hasn't been too long since my previous post, following last year's news, related to the tentatively-titled Pirates of the Caribbean 6. My blog post was published on June 13, covering a video uploaded on June 5, with the original story itself broadcasted on May 6, but I digress. Here is the latest, albeit just as small as the previous P6-related story and indeed qualifies as a "non-update" from producer Jerry Bruckheimer, which you may make of what you will.

Jerry Bruckheimer[]

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer was promoting F1 the Movie, which for any who are interested stars Javier Bardem and is set for release on June 27, and of course Pirates of the Caribbean 6 was brought up in an interview with Screen Rant's Ash Crossan. Check out his comments below:

Jerry Bruckheimer: We're working on a screenplay. Hopefully we'll get it right — and then we'll make it. We really want to make it, that's for sure.
ScreenRant: A continuation or something new?
Bruckheimer: It’ll be a new take on it.
ScreenRant: New take, new actors?
Jerry Bruckheimer: Well, not all new actors. We'll have some back.
ScreenRant: Okay...
Bruckheimer: I'm not going to tell you which ones — you'll have to guess.

Personal commentary[]

First and foremost, I'll go ahead and say this: this is a non-update, which Bruckheimer has given aplenty of in the past. It does not reveal any more than what has been officially revealed in the past, which is nothing other than at least one script is being developed. But I'm not gonna lie: this one does give me some optimism. This news implies that, in spite of the "reboot" news, the new film will be a continuation within the established universe. And if you've followed my opinions on the subject, I've always said it would be better for Disney/Bruckheimer to build on the franchise's legacy, rather than restart from scratch, as that is one of the major criticisms over P5: Dead Men Tell No Tales/Salazar's Revenge. And so for that reason, I'll cut Mr. Bruckheimer some slack, at least for now.

But onto the main question: while I'm sure P6 will focus more on the new cast akin to maybe Star Wars: The Force Awakens, who are the "some" familiar faces we're expecting to see? The Pirates of the Caribbean movie franchise has mainly revolved around Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), Joshamee Gibbs (Kevin McNally), Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), among many others, and far too many to count, but bringing them all back has its fair share of obstacles. Namely Mr. Depp, whose (Captain!) Jack has been the face of the Pirates franchise, and Ms. Knightley, who has expressed less interest, despite Mr. Bloom having made his fair share of interest even before P5 released. Of course, one may not rule out other supporting and/or smaller roles, like Pintel (Lee Arenberg), Ragetti (Mackenzie Crook), Marty (Martin Klebba), Angelica (Penélope Cruz), Philip Swift (Sam Claflin), Syrena (Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey), and Henry Turner (Brenton Thwaites) and Carina Smyth/Barbossa (Kaya Scodelario), among others who do have potential to return in some capacity. Then there is the post-credit tease of Davy Jones at the end of P5, but beyond Will having a barnacle-y wet dream, I have my doubts that will be the film's storyline. Unfortunately, with what little we know, it could be anything at this point.

This is an interesting subject that may better be served for a potential "Sequel News Rundown" or whatever kind of post I'll no doubt make in the future. Until then, what do you think, Pirates fans? Please comment below!
