Description[]
Around the bend in Frontierland is the most exciting "Audio-Animatronics" adventure, "Pirates of the Caribbean," a voyage you'll never forget! We board our bateau in the Blue Bayou to begin our journey to the Spanish Main. Soon we splash down waterfalls into an eerie cavern where we know dangers lie ahead. We pass Dead Man's Cove, a cave's eye view of a hurricane and the crew's quarters. Then, in the elegant "apartment" for the captain, a ghostly version of the pirates theme song — YO HO (A Pirate's Life for Me) is heard coming from a player-less organ. We pass through a glittering treasure cache and move right into a battle between a pirate ship and the fortress. As cannon balls whistle over our heads we move on to our first village. There pirates terrorize the citizens, burning and looting the city; and as they carry off their "booty" we hear the bloodthirsty pirates harmonizing on YO HO, the pirate's song. We escape the flames of the burning town by gliding into a tunnel beneath burning timbers. The fire creeps closer, adding to our danger; the pirates are target shooting at rum kegs which actually contain explosives. How do we escape from this terrifying situation? Through the magic of Walt Disney's "Audio-Animatronics" we "fall up" a waterfall and "presto" we are soon safely back in the Enchanted Blue Bayou.
Continuity[]
The soundtrack for Walt Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean included the first known book to provide information for the multi-media franchise, though mainly covered the original ride.
Among other Pirates-related media, Edward "Blackbeard" Teach and his death in the battle of Ocracoke Inlet, as well as the "British naval officer" Lieutenant Maynard, was first detailed in the soundtrack as well as both versions of the souvenir book.[3] In 2004, Blackbeard's ghostly spirit appeared in the Disney Adventures comic The Buccaneer's Heart!,[4] which has since been considered non-canon due to a living Blackbeard having been developed in the movie franchise. Originally, Blackbeard was one of the pirates present at the Brethren Court in Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio's first screenplay draft for the 2007 film Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End,[5] though the character never appeared amongst the Pirate Lords of the Fourth Brethren Court in the final version of the third film.[6] Blackbeard later appeared as the main villain of the 2011 film Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, the fourth film in the series, where Jack Sparrow said the mighty Blackbeard was beheaded, his body swam three times around his ship, then climbed back onboard.[7] When asked about Jack Sparrow's line in On Stranger Tides, which indirectly mentions Blackbeard's real-world death and implies that it is considered a legend in the Pirates universe, Rossio stated, "Blackbeard's history is definitely a legend, and like most legends, may or may not have a basis in fact."[8]
